Atheism, on the face of it, seems straightforward: it’s not theism. It’s a belief that there is no God or gods. But it’s slightly more complicated than that because, for most self-identifying atheists, it’s not just that they don’t believe in a God or gods, but that they don’t believe in any kind of supernatural realm. Contemporary science presents us with the remarkable theory that the universe began to exist about fifteen billion years ago with a cataclysmic explosion called ‘the Big Bang’. The question of whether Big Bang cosmology supports theism or atheism has long been a matter of discussion among the general public and in popular science books, but has received scant attention from philosophers. Atheism: Is religion a delusion? Posted on 5th November ; in Best books on politics, Religion, Science, Science and religion; by Brian. The new atheism. The Triad is about the power of citizenship. It devotes a chapter to science and religion. I claim that when science and religion are at war with each other, society’s problems are much. proof entirely on the theist and leaving the atheist with nothing in need of defense. However, common usage and even the titles of some atheist books (e.g., Smith’s Atheism: The Case Against God) demonstrate that atheism really means the belief that rejects belief in God.3 We may distinguish two types of atheism.

Religion The one theology book all atheists really should read This is an embarrassing oversight, especially for the atheist side (on which my sympathies generally lie). After all, scientific. The age-old debate of God and religion is something I tend to think about a lot. After having just caught the ending of The Book of Eli, which features strong performances from both Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman, I got thinking about the concept of God once again, and its influence on people. I grew up in a predominantly religious family, in that I grew up as part of a Sikh family. In several years of debating atheism and theism, I have made an observation. Ask any believer what would convince him he was mistaken and persuade him to leave his religion and become an atheist.   Daylight Atheism advocates secular humanism as a positive, uplifting and joyous worldview that deserves a larger following and wider recognition in the marketplace of ideas.

Atheism. Atheism is somewhat difficult to define. Wikipedia has the following "in a broad sense, the rejection of belief in the existence of deities. In a narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities. Most inclusively, atheism is the absence of belief that any deities exist.".   In this book two philosophers, each committed to unambiguous versions of belief and disbelief, debate the central issues of atheism and opens the debate by arguing that theism is philosophically untenable and seeks to explain metaphysical truth in the light of total science.4/5(26). Atheism is contrasted with theism, which, in its most general form, is the belief that at least one deity exists. The etymological root for the word atheism originated before the 5th century BCE from the ancient Greek ἄθεος (atheos), meaning "without god(s)". The only real interesting atheist books that are interesting and still considered philosophy would be Existentialist works. Being and Nothingness (which is a massive tome) by Sartre or a significantly smaller "summary" of that book Existentialism is a Humanism.
